Full disclosure: I’m 100% stealing this idea.
As I travel, I listen to a lot of podcasts and read a lot of blogs. Many of my favorites are essentially interviews with cool, creative people. And they all ask some iteration of the same question.
Jamie Ivey on the Happy Hour Podcast asks her guests to list three things they are loving.
Kevin and Demi on Gilmore Guys ask what one thing in pop culture their guest is watching/reading/listening to/digging.
Branden Harvey on Sounds Good asks what his guests are consuming that they love right now.
And my friend Claire writes her own Friday series about things that have made her week meaningful.
So I wanted to join in on the fun.
(Plus, added bonus, I’m hoping this will help me blog more. We’ll see. No promises.)
So here are 5 things I’m loving right now (not that you asked, but I’m telling you anyway).
Hamilton. We might as well get this one out of the way from the get-go because I could easily list it every week forever and always. No, my love has not died down. No, I haven’t stopped listening to it. Yes, I did listen to it today. And yesterday. No shame. Like I said last year when the craze wasn’t quite as widespread as it is today, it’s one of the smartest things I’ve ever heard. I cannot wait to watch (or at least watch clips of) the Tony’s on June 12. Hamilton is up for 16 awards (the most ever), and if this video is any indication, could take home a LOT of prizes. And if anyone wants to figure out a way for me to get a ticket to see it in Chicago, I would love you forever.
Blackberry Lime Bubble Water. It honestly pains me a bit to admit this because I feel like I am cheating on my beloved Diet Coke, but Austria sells Romerquelle Brombeere Limette water and I can’t stop drinking it. It’s not nearly as dry as Le Croix or other sparkling water (which I know is good for you, but simply can’t get down most of the time), but it doesn’t feel as bad as drinking pop (yes, I’m midwestern, deal with it). I’m on liter 2 of the day.
SKINFOOD Tomato Jelly Lip Tint. My friend Mandy swears by Korean beauty products. So when I was in Seoul, I made sure to send her a note and ask what companies I should check out. Among others, she suggested SKINFOOD – and after some quick googling, I learned that their top product was this lip gloss. It’s essentially tinted chapstick, but guys, it is GOOD. It has a permanent spot in my purse (and on my face) these days. I’m just ignoring the “tomato” part of the name.
Tattoos on the Heart by Gregory Boyle. I have a big list of books that I could talk about (and I do! Have you checked out my books page?), but this one really stuck with me. It’s an honest account of gang culture in Los Angeles – and the amazing work of a priest living and serving among some super tough neighborhoods. What I loved most about this book is that it doesn’t sugarcoat anything. It real. Even when real is painful.
Suits. Yes, I live an awesome, adventurous life. But sometimes I still want to curl up in bed and watch Netflix. And for a couple months this spring, all I wanted to watch was Suits. Yes, it’s insanely dramatic and unrealistic. But it’s just so FUN. And funny. And it doesn’t hurt that Mike and Harvey are babes. And that their bromance is amazing. Now I’m sad that Season 5 isn’t on Netflix.
So that’s what I’ve got for now. High Five. Happy Friday.
What are you loving? If I can access it remotely (think kindle, spotify, netflix), I’d love to check it out!
